If you are reading this after receiving one of our mailings, you'd probably like to know how to save 25%-33% off your outdoor water bill. In two words, it's: BLACK GUMBO That sticky, thick clay soil that everyone hates is good for one thing - it stores water like a battery stores electricity. Our Water Troll II in-soil moisture sensor monitors the amount of water in your soil like a meter measures the electrical charge in a battery. I ALREADY HAVE A RAIN GAGE. Those cheap little rain gages that city governments make you install will turn off your sprinkler system almost immediately. However, they won't keep your sprinkler systems turned off very long. Only a few hours in most cases. (You can have irrigation professionals install better units that will keep your sprinkler system turned off for 2 to 3 days, however, you won't find these units at Home Depot or Lowes.) IF RAIN GAGES LET MY SPRINKLERS TURN BACK ON IN ONLY A FEW HOURS, WHY DO THEY MAKE THEM MANDATORY? It looks bad when a sprinkler system is on during a rain storm. It's very easy to demonstrate that a rain gage will quickly turn off a system. Our best guess is that no one ever bothered to do the simple test to see how long a sprinkler system would stay off once the rain stopped. This takes time. We did. We invite you to try this experiment yourself, and we recommend it as a great science fair project for Middle School students. SO HOW DO I SAVE 25%-33% ON MY WATER BILLS? For various amounts of precipitation, here are some typical waiting times that you can expect before needing to resume watering.
The actual waiting periods will vary depending on the amount of shade, wind, temperature, amount (and type) of soil amendments, and the slope of the area relative to the surrounding terrain - which is why an in-ground moisture sensor is useful. Here are some rainfall averages that use these irrigation waiting times to show your average expected savings (in days you don't need to water). Average Water Rainfall Statistics for Dallas, Texas

An AquaSys Water Troll II is in the soil. It knows if you need to water or not, and it keeps your water off when it's not needed which saves you money - every time it rains.
